Doing Well by Doing Good
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Here at MicroMD, we are taking Gandhi’s words to heart by starting a new Community Outreach initiative with the start of 2016.
MicroMD’s community outreach program, tentatively titled Love Takes Action, is designed to benefit a variety of causes on both the local and national/international level while focusing on a different issue every two months. This allows our staff to learn what causes they are passionate about as they explore the many ways to benefit the world around them, while allowing MicroMD to be an active participant in giving back to our community.
The first issue being addressed in 2016 is Caring for the Homeless. For January and February, MicroMD adopted the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley as their cause. Team Schein Members served dinner at the Mission on two separate occasions and there was also a drive held for gift cards and toiletries to benefit the Mission. On our final night of dinner service we were able to take a box full of toiletries and gift cards, which were immediately put to use in benefitting those staying at the Mission.
Next up for Love Takes Action is a focus on fighting Human Trafficking. The Mahoning Valley, with its positioning between New York and Chicago, as well as major freeways coming through the area, has a surprisingly high number of human trafficking victims who pass through this area each day. MicroMD will be choosing one to two organizations to benefit through fundraising, as well as focusing on educating our staff on what human trafficking is, how to stay safe, and how to respond if you suspect you are witnessing human trafficking in action.
MicroMD is excited to be the change that we want to see in the world, and we encourage our clients and partners to find ways to become involved in their communities as well. In most communities, there are many organizations that are working to aid different needs. Most communities will have homeless shelters, food banks, and animal shelters to name a few. All you need to do to get started is conduct some research, decide where you want to get involved first, and then dig in!
