The practice received a fax stating that in order to retrieve their information, they would have to pay a $75,000 ransom.
The practice’s IT firm was able to backdoor the hackers, and they utilized a third-party to pay the hacker’s ransom in bitcoin.
Even with paying the ransom, this practice found itself without access to their computer system for three days.
This amounted to $30,000 to $50,000 in lost revenue each day for the practice which means that, at minimum, the practice lost $165,000.
