Seeing success with your EHR software begins with TRAINING
Regardless of where your practice is within the EHR lifecycle, training is always crucial to continuing success with your software system. It presents opportunities for you and members of your team to grow in familiarity with your software and the vendor that supports it. Think back to the reason that your practice initially decided to invest in your EHR system… was it to increase productivity or revenue? Instead, perhaps, your practice chose to utilize a software solution for regulatory compliance. There are many reasons that your practice could have decided it was time to ditch those paper charts and automate processes, but no matter the reason for the change… training is vital to overall success.
EHR Training enables your practice to do the following…
Reevaluate/Optimize Processes and Policies
When is the last time your practice sat down and evaluated the processes and procedures currently utilized to assess whether they are the most efficient for your clinic? If you are like many, you haven’t. It is a time consuming process that detracts from valuable time that could be spent doing other tasks that are falling behind for your team. At the end of the day, optimization efforts will boost overall efficiencies for your practice and these areas of optimization are often missed without extra training after implementation.
EMR training and training experts can help your practice establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to help you track optimization efforts at length. If your goals and targets are not hit in the future, you can assess why these marks are missed and reevaluate as to why. When you connect with your EMR trainer, they can help you determine how to track successes and failures and how to proceed with the data you collect.
As in any business, medical practices have turnover. Often with turnover, we do not assess old policies or what was not working in old roles. Through optimization efforts and training, your practice can discuss old policies, make updates, and ensure that all user profiles are setup in accordance with how you want your practice to operate now.
Understand New Features/Release Updates
Most EHR software vendors will have at least one vendor release a year with minor releases and bug fixes throughout. With version releases typically come enhancements to the software that are meant to boost your practice processes. For MicroMD, at times, we include new solution vendors, client requested features, PM and EMR enhancements, and more. All of these are meant to benefit the way the end user utilizes the system and streamlines the process, however, they are only beneficial if you take the time to understand what the features entail and how to use them for your practice’s benefit. Many vendors offer extra training to help you understand new version releases. Outside of this, they may offer client webinars, release notes, and guides for you to read and/or watch.
End User Satisfaction
When your staff understand the software that they utilize daily, they are often more satisfied with the system as a whole. In correlation to this, a better end user experience is often directly related to higher-quality patient care according to a report by KLAS’s Arch Collaborative. A lackluster user experience could lend to a frustrated provider who spends more time focused on trying to chart an encounter than paying attention their patient’s needs. End user satisfaction is directly linked to training and continuous training throughout an individual’s time utilizing the software system as enhancements are made and roles change.
