What is Clinical Decision Support (CDS)?
We know what you’re thinking… what is a clinical decision support system? This is a technology system created to provide healthcare professionals with a tool for clinical support when making decisions for patient care.
Clinical Decision Support Systems, or CDSS, are designed to improve accuracy, aid therapeutic decisions, and improve patient safety. Most CDSSs come equipped with computerized alerts and reminders, clinical guides, condition specific order sets, focused patient data reports, and more.
What are the benefits of using a CDSS?
There are many benefits to using this kind of system, some of these were named above, but there are more…
- Increased quality of care and health outcomes
- Avoidance of errors
- Improved efficiency, cost-benefits, and satisfaction
The way your CDSS functions in you practice depends on your needs, and how you use the system. This system’s ultimate goal is to help you provide the best quality of care possible to your patients with minimal errors or adverse events.
The award-winning Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) VisualDx is included for FREE with your MicroMD EMR License/Subscription and is one-click accessible from multiple areas in the software, including from the Chart “Info” button. Designed to enhance diagnostic accuracy, aid therapeutic decisions, and improve patient safety, VisualDx allows providers to quickly search by diagnosis. It aids in building a patient-specific differential, and/or reviewing travel or medication-related events at the point of care.
VisualDx’s website can be launched within an Encounter for you to review possible diagnosis matches for your patient based around age, sex, and chief complaints. This tool can be found in the Subjective/HPI tab in Encounter Builder. You can also access VisualDx through the patient’s chart on their Medications List or their Problem List. This tool alerts you of any medication problems that your patient might incur with prescribed medicine. For more information about using VisualDx in your software, please review our Quick Reference Guide or our Training Guide.
Trusted by over 1,700 hospitals and institutions and 50% of U.S. medical schools, VisualDx is utilized across several professional specialties.
